선의 UltraSPARC II 프로세서

SPARC (스팍, Scalable Processor ARChitecture - 확장형 프로세서 아키텍처)는 1985년 썬 마이크로시스템즈가 개발한 빅 엔디안 RISC 마이크로프로세서이다. SPARC 은 1989년 썬 마이크로시스템즈가 스팍의 확산을 위해 설립한 SPARC International, Inc.의 등록 상표이기도 하다. SPARC International은 스팍 아키텍처를 공개하였으며, 텍사스 인스트루먼츠, 사이프레스 세미컨덕터, 후지쯔 등 많은 칩 제조사에게 라이선스를 주기도 했다. 즉 SPARC에 기반한 마이크로프로세서는 더이상 썬 마이크로시스템즈만 제조할 수 있는 것이 아니다. 스팍 아키텍처는 SPARC International이VHDL로 작성한 LEON라는 소스를 공개하였으며, 누구도 소유하지 않는 완전 공개된 아키텍처가 되었다. 이 소스는 LGPL을 따른다.

스팍 아키텍처의 구현은 초기에는 썬이나 후지쯔의 대형 SMP서버나 워크스테이션을 위해 개발되었다. SPARC 머신은 일반적으로 썬이 SPARC를 위해 개발한 운영체제인 솔라리스와 비슷하게 취급된다. 현재 NeXTSTEP리눅스FreeBSDOpenBSDNetBSD 등이 스팍 프로세서에서 작동한다.

다양한 버전의 스팍 아키텍처가 있으며 스팍 버전 9는 64비트를 구현하였다. 2005년 12월에 썬은 자사의 새로운 스팍 아키텍처 울트라스팍 2005를 구현한 UltraSPARC T1을 개발하였다. 썬은 UltraSPARC T1의 디자인을 공개하였다.

Sun ONE

Sun ONE 은 Sun Open Network Environment의 약자. 
 
원래 
Netscape 와 Sun 과의 합작 회사였던 iPlanet 출시했다 
 
미들웨어 제품군이 계약 만료에 따라 Sun이 제품을 점령시기에 브랜드
이름을 변경. 
다음 Sun Java System에 다시 브랜딩되었다. 
 
제품군에는 J2EE 참조 아키텍처이다
Sun Java System Application Server와 LDAP 서버로 세계 최고의
점유율을 가진 Sun Java System Directory Server 세계 최다의 "상자"수를
매출있는 Sun Java System Messaging Server 등이있다.

요즘 Sun Java Enterprise System으로 구독 모델 (일련의 소프트웨어에
대한 연간 사용료를 사용자 수에 따라 지불하는 모델)을 발표,
화제를 모았다. 
현재는 일련의 소프트웨어 군을 분야별로 새겼다
Sun Java System Suite를 제공​​하고있다.

The Sun Fire server brand is a series of server computers introduced in 2001 by Sun Microsystems(since 2010, part of Oracle Corporation). The Sun Fire branding coincided with the introduction of theUltraSPARC III processor, superseding the UltraSPARC II-based Sun Enterprise series. In 2003, Sun broadened the Sun Fire brand, introducing Sun Fire servers using the Intel Xeon processor. In 2004, these early Intel Xeon models were superseded by models powered by AMD Opteron processors. Also in 2004, Sun introduced Sun Fire servers powered by the UltraSPARC IV dual-core processor. In 2007, Sun again introduced Intel Xeon Sun Fire servers, while continuing to offer the AMD Opteron versions as well.

UltraSPARC-based Sun Fire models are licensed to run the Solaris Operating System, with various Linux versions also available from third parties. Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron based Sun Fire servers support Solaris, OpenBSDRed Hat Enterprise LinuxSUSE Linux Enterprise ServerWindows 2000 or Windows Server 2003.[1]

Later Sun Fire model numbers have prefixes indicating the type of system, thus:

  • V: low-end and mid-range servers (UltraSPARC, IA-32 or AMD64)
  • E: enterprise-class servers with high-availability features (UltraSPARC)
  • Bblade servers (UltraSPARC or IA-32)
  • X: rack-mount x64-based servers
  • T: servers based on UltraSPARC T-series CoolThreads processors

When Sun offered Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron Sun Fire servers under the V-Series sub brand, Sun used an x suffix to denote Intel Xeon processor based systems and a z suffix for AMD Opteron processor based systems, but this convention was later dropped. The z suffix was also used previously to differentiate the V880z Visualization Server variant of the V880 server.

Sun's first-generation blade server platform, the Sun Fire B1600 chassis and associated blade servers, was branded under the Sun Fire server brand. Later Sun blade systems were sold under the Sun Blade brand.

In 2007, Sun, Fujitsu and Fujitsu Siemens introduced the common SPARC Enterprise brand for server products. The first SPARC Enterprise models were the Fujitsu-developed successors to the midrange and high-end Sun Fire E-series. In addition, the Sun Fire T1000 and T2000 servers were rebranded as the SPARC Enterprise T1000 and T2000 and sold under the Fujitsu brands, although Sun continues to offer these with their original names. Later T-series servers have also been badged SPARC Enterprise rather than Sun Fire.

Some servers were produced in two versions, the original version and a later RoHS version. Since a general maintenance/upgrade guideline is that RoHS components and spares may be installed into the original non-RoHS versions of that server, the end-of-life (EOL) date of a server is deemed the EOL date of the RoHS version of that server in this listing.
